Winter break on French Riviera

Back in the 1800s, rich tourists would visit the Alps in summer for the fresh air in their lungs and to gasp at the exhilarating vistas, but in winter they would head off to the French Riviera, which is the other way round from current fashion.

But they may have been in to something. Compared to the hot summers, the Riviera is not so humid in winter and of course, not so crowded. For you, In the second decade of already crisis ridden 21st century, with it's credit crunches and recessions, banking crises and job cuts, your priorities may be lean towards cost cutting and winter on the French Riviera can be quite a lot cheaper than summer. Which I think will lead people back and then they may realise that the beauty of the area can often be better enjoyed with less push and shove, less stifling heat and more peace and quiet.

Sit at length, idling at a café, stroll along the seafront, visit a few world class museums and experience the famously gentle light that inspired a generation of artists.

It's well worth thinking about.
